What is market capitalization?
Market capitalization (market cap) is the total value of a publicly traded company, calculated as share price multiplied by the number of shares outstanding. It is the most common way to compare the size of companies.
How can a country have a market cap?
It can’t, strictly speaking. For countries we use gross domestic product (GDP) as a size proxy so you can compare the scale of national economies against the largest companies and assets. Every country row is labeled accordingly.
How is an ETF’s size measured?
For exchange-traded funds we use assets under management (AUM) — the total value of everything the fund holds — as the closest equivalent to market cap.
How fresh are these numbers?
Figures are approximate estimates, last reviewed July 2026. Market values move constantly, so treat these as reference points for comparing scale rather than live quotes.
